JANUARY CONDITIONS PARTICULARLY HEAVY RAIN For diversity of weather last month established something of a record for tiie Waikato. Early there was a real touch of summer but thi6 was shortlived and give way to high winds and cold temperatures. These conditions i continued lor nearly two weeks when again there appeared to be a likelihood of a fine spell. However, the weather broke once again but, despite frequent light showers. pastures were becoming badly dried up by strong, warm winds. Until tin* last three dais in the month, the rainfall total was less than an inch compared wdth the average of 3.12in., but then came last week-end s deluge with the result that the aggregate rainfall I for January reached the phenomenal 1 total of 7.25in.
