DAMAGE IN TE AROHA MANY BUILDINGB WRECKED EXTENSIVE POWER FAILURE (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) TE AROHA, Tuesday An easterly gale that raged throughout yesterday and last night accompanied by heavy rain was the most violent experienced In recent years. Trees were levelled, gates, fences and sheds were blown down and many buildings were severely damaged, especially Iron roofs. A large portion of Baines' hire garages building in Whitaker Street was practically demolished and iron roofing carried long distances. The verandah of Bonny Glen boardinghouse was stripped off. In some parts of the borough trees fell across lines and cut off electric power throughout yesterday. Many car drivers are taking the precaution of roping down the top of their vehicles. The rainfall for the last 30 hours was 3in. and the gale is showing little sign of abatement. Orchards Stripped The gale has completely stripped the Ruakake. orchards of fruit. The wind played havoc with the Tourist Domain gardens and a number of trees along Rewi Street were uprooted this morning.
