SUCCESS CLAIMED BY RUBBIA LARGE PRODUCTION INCREASE (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright (Received Jan. 31, 10.25 a.m.) MOSCOW, Jan. 30 < The third five-year plan begun in 1937, but details of which* have now been released for the first time, de- . mands that, the national production J reach £7.200,000.000 in 1942, which [ represents an increase of 88 per cent ' over the requirements of the 1937 ! plan. 1 The plan aims to “catch up and J surpass economically the most advanc- J ed capitalist countries.” It. is declared " that the main object of the second c five-year plan was achieved, namely * the technical reconstruction of the J! nation’s economy. Russia is said to be industrially second only to the United States, producing in 1937 80 s per cent of the required amount. Equipment and capital of invest- J ment u»der the present plan will ab- . sorb £5.480,000,000. It Is aimed to ( reduce the cost of production by 11 per cent, double the volume of con- J sumers’ goods and raise the workers to the cultural and economic level of r engineers.
