Fils de Vaals, who like Cheval de Volee, has been located at Te Rapa for some months past, carne literally from the clouds to overwhelm the opposition at the last. The son of Vaals who races In the same Interests as the Auckland Cup winner, ahowed impressive form and more should be beard of him. Foxtoon at the distance appeared to have the race won, but was unequal to the winner. Gay Movie was prominent early from La vie, Wapaugh and Classic, La Vie abowlng out at the hair-mile rrom Classic, Little Star, Gold star, Wapaugh, Gay Movie and Fils de Vaals. Gold Wings then came through to lead .at the turn from Little Star, Gold Wings, Foxtoon, Classic and Fils de Vaals. Foxtoon looked to have the race won at the distance when Fils de Vaals Hashed on the scene on the outer and with a sustained run went on for a length and a-hair victory over Foxtoon, who beat Classic by a length. Silver Quex, after hitting the front within a furlong and opening up a big break on the Held, lasted sufficiently long under the vigorous handling of the diminutive Gilchrist to withstand the favourite’s challenge. Ballnavar and Silver Quex were the first to show out. Silver Quex leading along the back from Ballnavar, Bronze Trail, Brazilian, Maereana. Spinning Wheel and Miss Clipper (moving up fast). At the half-mile Miss Clipper was lying second to Silver Quex, who was ten lengths out. Ballnavar was third in front or Brazilian, Brone Star and Spinning Wheel. Silver Quex was still clear of Miss Clipper at the home turn and though the favourite Brazilian challenged strongly at the distance, Silver Quex went on to wdn by threequarters or a length with Ballnavar a further length and a-quarter away.
