INCREASED CHARGES
CHRICTOHURCH CARRIERB HIGHER COSTS RESPONSIBLE (By Telegraph—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Monday An increase of 6d a ton on all cartage charges by city and suburban carriers will corpse into force on Wednesday. The decision to take this step was made recently bv a largelyattended meeting of the Christchurch and Suburban Carriers’ and Customhouse Agents’ Association. The general rise in wages and other costs was cited as the principal reason for the increase. A price fixation scheme along the lines of that recently arranged by the No. 3 Transport Licensing Authority. Mr T. H. Langford, for carriers outside the exempted area was considered desirable by the majority of those present. It was considered desirable to forward a suitable remit for consideration at the forthcoming conference of the transport Industry in Wellington on February 20.
