YOUNG TARANAKI PLAYER 14 BETTER THAN SCRATCH i (Special to Times) NEW PLYMOUTH, Sunday To play 72 holes of golf on the Naamotu links in 278 strokes was the wonderful performance of the New Plymouth IS-year-old player. James Jeffery, during the week-end. The scratch score at Ngamotu is 73, so j that Jeffery reeled off the 72 holes in no fewer than 14 strokes better than j the scratch score and 10 under level j fours. Jeffery carded a 70 and a 71 yes- ! terday, but to-day he improved upon j this with a 69 and a 68. This latter j score equalled the unofficial course record established by the Auckland player, H. D. Brinsden, four years t ago. Jeffrey’s rounds of 69 and 68 j represent, the first occasion upon ; which 70 lias been broken twice in one j day on the course.
