AUSTRALIAN ACTORS
IN ENGLISH FILMS FRANK LEIGHTON’S SUCCESS When looking at the George Formby film, “It’s In The Air,” .it was a pleasant surprise to ‘meet” an old friend—Frank Leighton, who was in New Zealand on several occasions with the musical comedy companies headed by Madge Elliott and Cyril Ritchard, and later was the “hero” of several Australian films. Out at Cinesound studio in Sydney I watched Frank work on several occasions, and he told me of his desire “make good” in England. It is pleasing to find that he has done so, for in addition to appearing in several English films he is in the big London stage success, “The Fleet’s Lit Up.” Cyril Ritchard. also well known on the New Zealand stage, is in “It’s a Grand Old World,” starring Sandy Powell, now screening in Hamilton.
