MOTORISTS’ ESCAPE
* PLUNGE OVER PRECIPICE SECOND CRASH FOLLOWS (Special to Times) NEW PLYMOUTH, Thursday To plunge 100 feet over a sheer precipice before striking bush through which the vehicle tore its way another 50 feet, was the experience of a motorist, Mr W. Roy, of Dunedin, and his wife, this afternoon. Mrs Roy escaped with cuts and abrasions on the knee and Mr Roy with severe shock. The car was descending Mount Messenger on the New Plymouth side when Mr Roy failed to negotiate a [ corner. It came to rest 150 feet below the road level. To reach Mrs Roy and ascertain if she could be moved, Dr. Taylor was lowered over the precipitous cliff by a rope with the aid a' about' a dozen motorists who had gathered. Mrs Roy's condition was found to be not serious, and she was brought up to ! the road and taken to Waitara by Dr. Taylor. A Public Works Department ear, in which Mr Roy was being driven, bad covered only half a mile when it collided heavily with a car driven by Mr Hendrickson. of Palmerston North. 1 Both cars were badly damaged, but no one \Vtis injured,
