BUTTER FIGURES
BRITAIN'S IMPORTS The total imports of butter to Great Britain during last September were 6500 tons more than in September, 1937, but for the nine months ending September 30, the excess of imports over the same months last year was only 12,000 tons, the total being 371,000. This increase was entirely | from foreign countries, the total from Commonwealth countries being practically the same. Apparently Denmark continues not only to maintain but to increase her production, for her exports to Britain were higher than 1937, while the quantities she has been sending to Germany show no important change. Her place as the largest exporter to Britain has, however, for the past few years been taken by New Zealand which, for the nine months referred to, sent Britain the huge quantity of 101,000 tons, or about 10 per cent more than Denmark. Australia, the next largest supplier and which more than any other country varies from year to year according to climatic conditions, sent 65,000 tons during the three quarters, being 5000 tons more than 1937. Holland sent 29,000 tons, the same as last vear and Eire 14,000 tons, being 500 tons less than 1937. Remarkable increases are shown by Sweden and Latvia, each of which sent about 13,000 tons as compared with 8000 in 1937. Increases are also shown by Lithuania. Poland. Finland and Estonia, whose combined total was 34,500 tons as compared with 23.000 in the same nine months of 1937. Russia, which for the same period of 1937 sent 12,000 tons, sent nothing this year. _
