RAIDS ON BARCELONA BOMBS FROM ITALIAN PLANES BRITISH STEAMER SUNK (United Press Astn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Dec. 28, 11.45 a.m.) BARCELONA, Dec. 27 The British steamer Stancroft was sunk by Italian bombers during the first of two raids on the city, suburbs and port. There were no casualties, but widespread damage was caused in the city. A MARCH GENERAL FRANCO'S ADVANCE FALL OF BARCELONA EXPECTED (Independent Cable) LONDON, Dec. 27 Reports in Spanish Nationalist newspapers and from Franco’s radio stations declare his soldiers are triumphantly marching forward, singing: “Barcelona, Here We Come,” and that the capture of Barcelona is imminent. The “conquerors” have collected huge supplies ready to distribute to the inhabitants of Barcelona when they arrive.

Dec. 27 The Nationalists now claim to have destroyed two complete Government divisions. Copyright) NEW YORK, Dec. 27 Mr Elliott Roosevelt, a son of the President, in a radio address over his own network of stations, admonished Mexico for her expropriation of property, and said: “ It is obvious tlia.t something must be done. Mexico lias acted, but the United States lias not begun to act. Our 4 good neighbour ’ policy apparently is not enough. Until Mexico makes an overture for friendship I for one must subscribe to the tneory that actions speak louder than words.” The speaker said it would be for the good of Mexico if she invited representatives of the nations affected to work out a settlement of the oil and land expropriations.
