Racing at Rotorua

HUNT FIXTURE TO-MORROW INTEREBTINQ FIELDB CARDED TE RAPA WELL REPRESENTED THE PROSPECTS REVIEWED (By “Martian”) Thougti the class is not strong the fields carded for the annual meeting of the Rotorua and Bay of Plenty Hunt at Arawa Park to-morrow are of an interesting nature and good racing should eventuate. The chief event, the Hunt Cup Steeplechase, has attracted seventeen acceptors, while the balance of the programme has also filled well. Betting will be on the win and place principle. Following are the fields with a review of the prospects • —- 12.0

Sirrom gave an encouraging exhibition at the Waikato Hunt on Monday and, allowing for possible improvement in his condition, he should make a bold hid to-morrow. Pinto, too, is another that went well at Cambridge and will be benefited by racing at that fixture. Makoi will need to do better and Little Briton makes greater appeal. This improving jumper won attractively this week and he should again hold Sirrom safe. He jumps well and possesses the speed on the flat to hold his own in better class than that which he accounted for the other day. Green Label showed early brilliance in his recent engagement and will be better suited by the slightly shorter distance here, while Centaurus and Tavern Song have been schooling in a manner indicative of early atonement. In a race of this description there is always the possibility of a surprise, but recent form points to a well-supported trio being found in—

LITTLE BRITON SIRROM TAVERN SONG

The class is not strong and the topweight Free Advice, who has run several good races at Arawa Park in the past, will have to be conceded good prospects, especially as she shaped well in the final trials the other morning. Town Section has been off the scene for a spell and though he was second to Prival at Rotorua in February his form last season was not impressive. Simla comes under the same category and will need to show’ improvement on last season to possess a chance. Goldation and Luleen have prospects and Forest Lake, Fairy Hill and Hempton will not lack a following on the machines. On the score of form there Is little to pick and choose from, but the favourites may include— FREE ADVICE FOREST LAKE HEMPTON

A wet track would assist the chances of Mio Fratollo, who over the past several weeks has been striding along freely in his tasks. However, Hessketoon may be the better proposition. He was runner-up to Sing Lee at Paeroa over seven furlongs and the other day at Cambridge he finished a commendable second to Dauber in the Bracelet. He will be meeting the latter on more favourable terms on this occasion and may turn Ihe tables. Further down the list Simint and Tralee Rose appeal as likely sorts with the credentials to command respect. The former has been racing with a consistency that draws attention to his claims, while in Tralee Rose we have an improving sort who has demonstrated in the past a partiality for the Arawa Park course. Golden England and Green Label will add interest to a race in which the prime fancies may include— DAUBER HESSKETOON SIMINT

The field is an Interesting one and the Cambrige winner Ureklaw should prove again one of the hardest to dispose of after the encouraging nature of his form the other day. however, a number of those further up the handicap \Vill keep him right up to it. Forest Acre has been racing disappointingly of late, but a line through his track essays would suggest he may make early amends. Erlick’s form at Avondale was distinctly good and a reproduction of his running the second day over a mile will make him difficult to beat. Gay Sister is a good sort when rjzht. while Raceline has indicated in reecnt months that he is more solid and reliable now than formerly. Mio Fratollo, if reserved, will have to be respected, while of the balance the best may be Long Span and Poland. The public may place most reliance on the chances of— ERLTGK UREKLAW ,LUNG SPAN

well-balanced field and there is every indication of a most interesting race. Simint has good form over hurdles and will have ITtness on his side. Biforrn possesses a jumper's chance, Floodlight won well over hurdles at the Pakuranga Hunt early in the season and Bells of Bow has demonstrated in the past that he is always liable to be dangerous. King Rod, Golden England and Aramis are a trio of likely improvers, while Pinto, on Cambridge running, will have to be respected. Prior to Cambridge, Gay Cavalier had been shaping well on the tracks at Auckland, but settled his chances at Cambridge by running off at the initial fence. If he behaves himself here he will be dangerous. Tuaheahc has done nothing of late and that fine jumper, Rebel King, a winner in the Farmers’ Steeplechase at the Waikato Hunt, should hold him safe. He won really well on Labour Day and gave the impression that he would go on to better things. Sirrom should account for the rest. It is an open race in which there should be igood support forthcoming for — REBEL KENG BELLS OF BOWSI MINT 3.48 LADIES’ BRACELET HANDICAP or £SO; l mile and 130yds.

All, with the exception of Lady Quex, are entered for earlier events and their prior running may serve as a guide to their prospects here. Hessketoon finished second to Dauber m this class of event at Cambridge on Labour Day and as he has been racing consistently he will be assured of support. King Silver showed promise early in his career and being a line upstanding type weight should not stop him. Sirrom raced well at Cambridge, while of the others to appeal as likely improvers on recent running are Atlantus and Centaurus. At this stage it would appear that the public may sum up for— HESSKETOON SIRROM KINO SILVER 4.30 •MERE RA HANDICAP

Some useful sprint performers are engaged in the concluding event. Llangollen has a solid poundage hut she demonstrated convincingly on the first day at Paeroa this month that she has lost little of her old brilliance over the distance and she will have to be treated with every respect. Silver Jubilee would need only to strike form to set the opposition a stern task. He ran a fair fourth at Wanganui last month and was expected to run prominently at the recent Ellerslie gathering, but soreness on the eve of the meeting caused his withdrawal from engagements. Kena is a reliable type and Miss Te Koura, who has not been out of a place this season and who beat all but that good hack, Paddy the Kip, in the Gordon Handicap at Ellerslie this month, makes strong appeal at the weights. Te Hai is a strong possibility, w'hile Grand City and Gay Sister are not wijthout a chance. However, the final figures may favour the ehances of— MISS TE KOURA LLANGOLLEN SILVER JUBILEE 6.18 MASTERS’ HACK HANDICAP Of £80; 6 fur. and 30yds.

Some interesting talent is entered for the Master's Hack. Haile Boy displayed some useful form last season, but he has been off the scene for a spell and may be in need of a race. Raceline is entered for the Hack Cup and the earlier distance may be better suited to him. Spearford continued his winning way at Cambridge the other day and in his present condition he may be difficult to beat again. Sing Lee staged a “come back” at the Ohinemuri meeting early in the present month and while he subsequently failed to repeat that form he may take a power of beating in the event of a wet track obtaining. Little Ruse is a possibility and other prospects include Simla. Poland. Free Advice, Ngawiri and Clooneen. It should be a good betting race with preference likely to be extended — SING LEE FREE ADVICE HAILE BOY RANGITIKEI CLUB MEETING AT BULLS I FIELDS FUR TO-MORROW I ;.
