INCREASES IN AUSTRALIA ‘n ENCOURAGEMENT TO DOMINION j (Py Telegraph.—Press Association) *fi AUCKLAND, Monday An assurance that New Zealand’* interest in the centennial celebrations in Melbourne in 1934 and in the sesquicentenary in Sydney early this year would be reciprocated by Australia when the Dominion's Centenary is held in 1940 was given by Mr 11. C. Fenton, European manager of the Australian Travel Association, who is a passenger on the Aorangi returning to London after six weeks’ visit to the Commonwealth. The success of the Sydney celebrations hud exceeded expectations, he said, and the result should be a great encouragement to thoae organising in Ne\i Zeaaind. Travel between the Dominions and Britain was increasing. Last year 28,000 visitors from overseas went to Australia and in addition 12,000 new setlJers. Also 20,000 Australians went to Britain, Europe and other countries, including many to New Zealand in cruise liners and regular vessels. This year it was expected that the number would be still higher. Last year his association spent £30,000 in attracting tourists and the estimated amount spent by tourists in Australia was £1,700,000.
