GIFT PARTIES
BRIDE-TO-BE HONOURED The Parish Hall, Morrinsville, was the scene of a happy party recently when Miss Rhoda Maekay was hostess at a gift evening in honour of Miss M. Hansen, of Waitoa. The hall was beautifully decorated with bowls of autumn leaves, and a cosy log Are added to the brightness. Miss Maekay received her guests wearing a model frock of black romaine, with a beaded yoke. The guest-of-honour wore a smart frock of black tal'feta with a black fur coatee. She carried a posy of autumn flowers presented to her by the hostess. Mrs Hansen, mother of the guest-of-honour, wore a Marina blue matalasse frock. Dancing and games passed a jolly evening. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr G. Porter, and Mrs J Thompson supplied the music. After supper Miss Hansen was asked to open the many gift parcels. Mr M. C. Trotman suitably replied. Among those present were:—Mesdames F. C. Hansen, J. Hansen (Matangi), Evans, Hazelhurst, J. Thompson; Misses M. Hansen, J. Hansen, J. Thornton (Matamata), R. Maekay, M. Cumberland, V. Hetherington, J. Robb, B. Porter, M. Groves, D. Watts, E. Bruning (Waitoa), H. Arndt, D. Arndt. EVENING AT WAITOA A happy time was spent in the Waitoa Hall recently on the occasion of a gift evening tendered Miss Mabel Hansen, who is to be married shortly. A large attendance was present, the evening being spent in dancing, interspersed with humorous items given by Canon Turner and his talking doll, “Claude.*’ Music was supplied by Messrs Stafger, Coulter, McIvor and Gibbons. After supper, Mr J. Lynch, chairman, asked the guest-of-honour to accept the many gift parcels as a token of esteem. Mr M. C. Trotman responded on behalf of his fiancee. Musical honours were accorded them and dancing was resumed.
