Dr. J. M. Liston, Catholic Bishop of Auckland, is visiting Hamilton. Mr \V. Nelson, chairman of the Honey Eport Control Board, was in Hamilton yesterday. Mr L. V. Bryant, senior house master at Waitaki Boys’ High School, is visiting Te Awamutu and Matangi. Mr W. P. Aldridge, chief postmaster in Hamilton, resumed his duties this morning after visiting Sydney with the New Zealand contingent which took part in the Anzac Day celebrations. The judges at the Palmerston North competitions are':—Mr Gordon McBeth, of Wanganui, vocal and instrumental music; Mr Barton Ginger, of Wellington, elocution. The Australian Federal Cabinet has appointed Mr L. R. McGregor as Australian Commissioner in the United States. lie lias been Australian Trade Commissioner in Canada since 1930. Messrs W. Morgan , Whangarei), and C. E. Robertson (Lower Hutt) are at the Hamilton Hotel. Mr J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M., of Marton, arrived in Auckland yesterday to take up his duties in the Police Court in a relieving capacity. He will continue until the appointment o ( f a third magistrate to be stationed at Auckland. Mr J. H. Luxford, who has been relieving for about a week, relinquished his duties yesterday. Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., of Palmerston North, has been transferred to Wellington as senior magistrate to succeed Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., who will retire on June 20 on account of illhealth. Mr C. P. Belton, a member of th® plain clothes staff of the Gisborne Police Force, will probably stand at the general elections in November as an Indepedent member with Labour leanings. Mr Belton, who is actingdetective, has been in Gisborne about 18 months, having previously been stationed at Hamilton. He is a noted chess player and recently participated in the New Zealand chess championship. Mr Belton is making application for leave to allow himself to be nominated as candidate, but it is not expected that there will be much trould* in that direction.
