DRY SPELL BROKEN

SHOWERS IN WAIKATO RELIEF FOR FARM LANDS PHENOMENAL HEAT Although the fall was by no means sufficient to counteract the effect of the long dry spell last month, the' showers which fell on Saturday evening and yesterday provided a measure of relief for pastures in the Waikato. For the 48 hours ended 9 o'clock this morning the fall in Hamilton was .39 inch and that- at the RuakuTa Farm of Instruction .35 Inch. Boisterous conditions were experienced on Saturday evening and as a result of the high wind pastures were dried before the full effect of the rain could be felt. There is still urgent need for further rain as the fall over the week-end has dona little more than give temporary relief and In few cases in the Waikato did the moisture' penetrate to any depth. Conditions in Hamilton yesterday were very warm, intermittent rain lu the morning giving place to beautifully fine weather when the wind dropped in the late afternoon. The maximum temperature In Hamilton yesterday reached 80 degrees, which is phenomenally high for this time of the year. EXTRAORDINARY HEAT MID-SUMMER TEMPERATURES (Special to Times.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Sunday Extraordinary heat for April has been experienced In Taranaki in the past few days.
