The Governor-General, Viscount Galway, accompanied by Captain R. Stuart French, A.D.C., returned to Turangl from Wellington and left later for Taupo. He proposes to return to Turangi if the weather is suitable for fishing. Mr H. N. C. Joosten, of Hamburg, Germany, is at the Hamilton Hotel. Mr F. H. Levien, S.M., will leave Auckland by the Monterey to-day en route to England on a holiday visit. Mr Frederick Gavin, of Tauranga, has been selected for a commission in the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Mr E. J. Phelan has been appointed by the Government as its nominee on the Auckland Harbour Board for three years from April 27. Messrs H. W. Silcock (Rotorua), E. Lynskey, E. Ryan, B. Cattley (New Plymouth), G. Sutheland (Auckland) and Dr. W. A. Latham (Wellington) are at the Hamilton Hotel. Messrs W. A. Abraham (Rotorua), W. Shannon, N. McGowan (Wellington), W. A. Thompson, W. Burnett, M.P. for Tauranga, has been unanimously selected by the branches and the national executive of the New Zealand Labour Party as the Labour candidate for Tauranga. Mr E. A. Butterfield, district solicitor in the Public Trust Office, Greymouth, has been appointed legal clerk in the Wellington district office. His position at Greymouth will be filled by Mr A. J. Quill, legal clerk, Wellington. Messrs W. E. Clark and J. Ballard, past-presidents of the Waikato Winter Show Association, have left Hamilton to visit Australia, where they will attend shows and interest themselves in the question of an agricultural museum for Hamilton. Dr. Donald Price, formerly of the staff of the Waikato Hospital, who has been doing post-graduate work in Edinburgh, has gained his F.R.C.S. and has obtained an appointment in the ! Dreadnought Hospital, Greenwich, > London. Sergeant M. Farrell, of Wellington, has arrived in Hamilton bn temporary transfer during the absence on leave of Senior-sergeant G. H. Lambert. While the Senior-sergeant is away his duties will be carried out by "sergeant T. Kelly. Mr R. 11. Nimmo, of the board of directors of the Centennial Exhibition, arrived in Auckland on Saturday and will leave for America |by the Monterey to-day.
