CLUB CRICKET ENDS

HAMILTON COMPETITIONS BRIGHT MAKES 7B TWO GOOD BOWLING EFFORTS Club cricket concluded in Hamilton on Saturday, with the finalising of the praotlce games commenced on March 19. Old Boys went down to Hamilton, the latter securing an outright win. while Claudelands defeated Hamilton East by 66 runs on the first innings. Interest was lacking in the Old BoysHamllton game, but Claudelands made strenuous endeavours to get the 82 runs required for an innings victory over this season's club champions. They failed to reach their objective, scoring 35 for the loss of live wickets. The outstanding batsmen on the day were P. Bright and K. L. Sandford. The former, though lucky at times, scored an excellent 75, which included three sixes and six fours. Sandford was in attractive form for his 55, being unbeaten when the innings closed Assisted by the wind, the fast bowlers. Going f Hamilton East and Hemi Claudelands shared the bowling honours of the day, both taking five wickets for '7 runs. They swung the ball at times to keep the batsmen guessing. CHAMPIONS DEFEATED CLAUDELANDS BEAT EAST MARGIN ON FIRST INNINGS Replying to Hamilton East's first innings’ total of 126, Claudelands were dismissed for 192, an addition of 31 to their total of the previous Saturday. Hamilton East went for 147 In the second innings. Bright contributing over half this total in an enterprising knock, which, however, was not without blemishes, several chances falling safely Just outside mid-off. Apart ttom" this, however, Bright's performance against steady bowling and on a treacherous wicket was meritorious. Claudelands endeavoured to force an Innings win, but were 47 runs behind their objective at stumps. H. Going troubled all the batsmen, lifting deceptively at times and coming through fast at others. For Claudelands, Hem! found the conditions to his liking and wound up a successful run In Hamilton East's second Innings with figures Identical with those of Going In Claudelands’ first Innings.
