WOMEN’S DIVISION

— I TE AROHA-WAIHOU BRANCH I AUTUMN FLOV'ER SHOW 1 SUCCESSFUL DISPLAY The first autumn show to be held by the Te Aroha-Waltoa branch of the Women’s Division of t.he Farmers Union was a pronounced success, the display of fruit, flowers and vegetables being "of high standard. I. n . a ELSTOW SEIZOR DIVISION J. g t There was a large attendance at f the March meeting of the Elstow Sen- s ior Division branch, Mrs Stembridge 1 presiding. A vote was taken by members on *] the proposal to change over from * I Thames Valley Provincial to Piako, the result being in favour of Piako. The sum of £lO 13s Gd was forwarded to the Auckland Blind Institute for goods purchased by members. The roll call “my favourite author” I brought forth interesting replies. The competition for a darned stocking was won by Miss P. Blackford, with Mrs May second and that for the school lunch was won by Mrs Needham. with Miss Blackford second. The hostesses were Mesdames Needham, Palliser and Miss McCormick. BRANCH FORMED AT MANQAITI [ Mrs Stembridge, president of the i Elstow branch, and over 20 members ' visited Mangaiti to meet a number of > ladies desirous of forming a branch i there. Mrs Donovan, provincial organiser, gave an interesting address on the aims and objects of the Women's Division and it was decided to form a ■ branch. TATUANUI BRANCH FOURTH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED The Tatuanui branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union celebrated Us fourth birthday with a wellattended gathering In the Tatuanui Hall. The president, Mrs G. L. Kelk, welcomed visitor’s from the Ngarua, Morrinsville, Tauhei, Patetonga and Te Puninga branches, and from the Waitoa Women’s Institute. The entertainment programme included songs by Miss M. Darrall ! (Tatuanui) and Mrs F. Brown (WaiLoa), which were much enjoyed, and two national dances, by Avis Frampton, who was accompanied on the accordion. Several competitions in which members and visitors took part, resulted as follows: —Word guessing, Mrs Elliott; leaf-naming, Miss Z. Rushton and Mrs Suckling (Waitoa) 1, Mrs Semple 2; household jobs, Mrs Colson (Waitoa) ; wandering shilling, Mrs W. Luxton (Waitoa). The floral competition for a bowl of flowers was won by Mrs Cooper (Te Puninga), with Mrs Darrall second. The jam competition was won by Mrs Kelk, and in the preserves competition Mrs Hardaker was first and second. The branch's birthday cake with four candles was cut by the president. Bouquets were presented to the president and the secretary (Mr McAlpine), on behalf of members by little Avis Frampton. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Wilson, Old, Welch and th* members of the committee.
