RACING AT MATAMATA

FINE FIELDS TO-MORROW THIRTEEN IN THE CUP TE RAPA WELL REPRESENTED THE PROSPECTS REVIEWED (By “Martian”) The largest fields received for many years by the Matamata Racing Club have come forward lor the club’s iiinual meeting to-morrow and there is every reason to antvip:»te that the fixture will prove a record one The Cup field has attracted the well-bal-anced entry of thirteen acceptors, while all other fields have filled correspondingly well. Win and place betting will be in operation. Following are the field with a review of the prospects:— * 110 HINUCRA HANDICAP

In the large fTeld engaged the luck of the mnninsr may have an important bearing on the result. There are a number of likely improvers entered and it promises to be an interesting race. Aynho has shown useful form to date, running second to Abbey Lass at Paeroa at her last appearance. Superior Guard, too, showed promise of winning form at Paeroa. Town Section, Free Advice. British Nation, N'pakaru. Green Label and Gentaurus •re all likely improvers with a chance, while further down Miss Clipper strikes one as liable to surprise if she jumps away correctly. She worked well yesterday morning. Australian Star and Sir Joe Joe are the best of the others in a race in which preference may be shown for— MISS CLIPPER AYNHO BRITISH NATION 1140 ▼IMU HURDLES

The class Is not strong but the material Is there, nevertheless, to make an Interesting race of it. Yalpai has been working reasonably well and should strip in solid eon** : *n while L’Allegro, too, should h l ids own in the class. Killadar will I*e all the better for racing at Tauranga as also will Good Hunting, who appeals at this stage as one of the hardest to dispose of. Indications are he will be the actual favourite. Yalpeen may And the distance too short and Day Boy. Professional and Swift Spear will he preferred to him. Swift Spear shaped encouragingly at Tauranga and will have the services of Triilo Latour's Last is not without a chance, while Teak, who will be making his dibut in this department, has been •ehooling in dashing style at Takanfni. Floodlight may do best of the others In a race in which major support may be forthcoming for— GOOD HUNTING SWIFT SPF.AR PROFESSIONAL 1.20

The sprint event has attracted • useful field and Tosh, for all his 9.<5. will prove one of the hardest to dispose of. He won really well at Tauranga and has done well in the interim. Trilliarch should be improved by racing at the Bay of Plenty and may be seen to better advantage on this occasion. Lornacre has been I racing well and has performed well on 1 the Matamata course in the past

i Marie s Acre is speedy and lias the ' credentials to command a following, while Prince Acre, especially in the event of rain falling, will have to he treated with respect. Krndale should hold the others safe, but the public may sum up for— I.ORNACRF. MARIE’S ACRE TOSH

draw for positions may be a deciding factor. Strathire is a useful sort when right and his creditable third at Paeroa commends him. Haile Boy will be improved by Tauranga racing and Huntingmore’s second to To Monowai at Paeroa was encouraging. Bronzctte has been working well, while the track essays of Pirate King suggest early improvement. Poker Face, Bass and Ulooneen are a useful trio, while Maxown should account for more than beat him. Paunui vjill need to show improvement on Tauranga running to have a chance, but a change of riders may prove beneCcial. British Nation is on the upgrade and Susan and Superior Guard will have their measure of support. There should be support forthcoming for— SUPERIOR GUARD HAILE BOY BROXZETTF. 2.80 MATAMIATA CUP HANDICAP Of £325; about li miles.

The Matamata Cup has drawn a well-balanced field and it should be a great betting race. Jonathan is a consistent customer and has been working well, while the impressive form of Llangollen suggests that the Opotikl mare will fake a power of beating. Master Brierly will not be lacking support, while Paso Robles Mazir and (lay Rose all come within the category of strong possibilities. Rona Bay and Day Wind should perform well on the course and Jewelled Girdle is likely to Improve with recent racing. Gay Streak appeals as a likely lightweight, who has not been racing with the best of luck of late, but the elect of Investors may be— LLANGOLLEN JONATHAN MAZIR £.38 PUTAftURU STAKES

There are a number engaged with little or no form to provide a lino on their rhanres ami there is every possibility. therefore, of a surprise being recorded. Silver Eagle staged an impressive debut- in the Bombay Handicap at Pukekohe in running second to Bronze Wing and but for swinging wide at the straight entrance may have been harder to dispose of than lie was. Sen Acre is a likely Improver who has been shaping well on the tracks and the latest form of Aynho would suggest that this consistent customer may be heard of soon among the winning lists. Town Section, Star Vaals, Milanion and Miss Tidal have chances, but favouritism may be divided among— SILVEIi EAGLE SEN ACRE AYNHO 4.20 OKOROIRE HACK HANDICAP

Tim Hark nine furlong event is one of Ili«» must open on tin- day's card. Jewelled Girdle should be racing into form by now and Kenas success at Tauranga will ensure the Musketoon gelding an optimistic following on the machines. Forest Acre and Gometariuni have been racing well, but rather unluckily of late and they should perform solidly. Haile Boy should be benefited by racing at Hie Bay of Plenty and Lady Diana's latest track form indicates a chance for the Te Awamutu representative. However, there arc a number who will be preferred to her. Among these are Bonnie Song. High Sea, General Ruse, Racette (a winner at Tauranga), Requiem and Galloping Acre. It is an open race with good support likely to be extended— HAILE BOV COMETARIUM RACETTE 8.5 WALTON HANDICAP (Open) Or £175; 7i Tur. st. lb. st. lb. Golden Sheila’s good second to Lornacre at Paeroa was indicative of a return to her best and she should have good prospects. Enge is not vVlthout a chance and Tray Bit will need only to reproduce his best to be one of the hardest to dispose of. Rona Bay, Te Hal, Tradesman and Sinking Fund are possibilities, but one to make more appeal is Merial, who has been shaping satisfactorily in her latest track essays. -Prince Rangi, Mangukaha, Respectful and Gold Vaals will all add interest to a race in which the betting lists may be headed by— GOLDEN SHEILA MERIAL RONA BAY RIDING ENGAGEMENTS Riding engagements for to-morrow include:— F.
