VALUELESS cheque charge PROCEEDINGS CANCELLED (By Telegraph.—press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. The police have decided not to proceed with the charges against Randall Reginald David Smith, the Arundel murderer, of obtaining goods by means of a valueless cheque. After being sentenced to death at Timaru for the murder of William Gaby, at Arundel, Smith was brought before the Timaru Magistrate's Court last week on a charge of obtaining money and goods to the value of £8 16s 7d at Seacliff on September 13, three days after the murder, by means of a valueless cheque. On the application of the police he was remanded to appear at Christchurch to-day but it was announced this morning that in accordance with the request of the police, the magistrate. Mr F.. C. Levvcy had cancelled all further proceedings.
