PROFESSIONALS MEET RESULTS AT INVERCARGILL (By Telegraph.—Press Association) INVERCARGILL. Friday The annual tournament of the Professional Golfers’ Association was begun on the Invercargill Golf Club’s links at Otatara to-day in ideal weather. The course, which measures 6000yds., was, on account of a long spell of dry weather, playing short long drives getting from 280yds. to 320yds. and 330yds. from the tee. When playing with the light southeasterly breeze, several players drove to the tenth green 286yds), and at the second hole 339yds). A. Guy was slightly past the green with his drive. Smith Impressive In the morning, which was hot and calm, a Stableford handicap was played, and this afternoon, which was a trifle cooler, a bogey handicap was decided. Net scores in two rounds counted for the Bromford Cup. The first and second rounds of the Southland provincial professional championship will be decided to-morrow, and the following day the third and fourth rounds are to be played.
