POLICE EVADED

CRASH THROUGH SKYLIGHT MAN RISKS HIS LIFE (Special to Times.) AUCKLAND, Saturday A sensational incident in which a man risked his life to avoid a party of detectives engaged in a raid occurred on the second floor of Queen’s AVcade, City, last evening. When the detectives raided the premises he crashed through a skylight and hung by his hands 35ft above the slartled crowd. Several people told him lo hold on, fearing that he would be killed or seriously injured. To the surprise of the onlookers he swung like a monkey backwards and landed on the first floor balcony 10ft below. Recovering his balance, lie disappeared. The raiding party arrested 28 men on gaming charges, after forcing its way into the large room formerly occupied by the Auckland Manufacfacturers’ Association as the Hall of Industries. The men were later taken to the watch-house, charged before a justice, and remanded on bail till Monday.
