TAUPIRI DRAINAGE
MEETING OF BOARD SEASONAL CLEANING WORK The question of the seasonal cleaning of internal drains in the Taupiri Drainage Board's district was discussed at a meeting of the board held yesterday, and arrangements were made with the ward members concerned for an extensive programme of efi-ain cleaning throughout the area, the work to be done on wages and not by contract. It was believed that in this way much better results would be obtained. The meeting was presided over by Mr L. It. W. Reid. The hoard also discussed the question of the amendment- of the drain classification to correct anomalies arising out of the alteration of works originally proposed and the addition of new works to the Ten Foot, Tauhei and Komokorau wards, and it was arranged to call a special meeting on February 24 to meet the board’s classifier, Mr S. B. Sims, and discuss the matter. Drain Renovation Work
Regarding the hoard’s request to the Public Works Department for the carrying out of renovation work on certain drains handed over to the board for maintenance, advice was received from the department agreeing to do a considerable amount of the work asked for. With regard to the northern outfall, the department, suggesting that the work there might be carried out by the board, indicated that it might be the subject of a subsidy at some future date. Appreciation was expressed by board members of the action of the department. Members also discussed the question of a drain register with relative plans of all drains and ward members supplied tlie clerk with information relative to internal drains in this connection. It was, however, decided to hold over this matter until the board received from the Public Works Department particulars of the drains in the Taupiri scheme, just completed.
