WOMAN IMPRISONED OFFENCE AT TAUMARUNUI (Special to Times.l TAUMARUNUI, Thursday. At the Magistrate's Court Elsie Clara Howie, who appeared on charges o f selling liquor in a proclaimed area, was sentenced by Mr R. M. Watson, S.M., to four months’ imprisonment. Evidence was given of several police visits to premises known as "The Brown Owl” when liquor was secured. On November 20 defendant’s premises were raided and eight men were there. £lO FINE IMPOSED CONSTABLE VISITS SHOP (Special to Times) MATAMATA, Friday A constable's visit to a shop during a dance had a sequel in the Matamata Magistrate’s Court yesterday, when James Henry Doleman, of Waharoa, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a charge of sly grog-selling. Accused at first pleaded not guilty, but on the advice of his counsel altered this to a plea of guilty. Evidence of transactions in defendant’s shop was given by Constable G. Pape, of Hamilton, who said he had attended a dance and later visited Doleman’s premises, where he secured three bottles of beer for 6s. The liquor was brought from a back room where there were three other men, each with a bottle of beer. Later witness and Constable Moore, of Matamata, conducted a search and secured 26 bottles of beer, a five-gallon kes of beer, and bottles of wine. Accused was convicted and fined £lO.
