SUBSIDIES SOUGHT
DEPUTATIONS TO MINISTER DRAINAGE AND ROADS (Special to Time* ) TE AROHA. Friday The Minister of Public Works met deputations this morning from the Piako Countv Council and the Thames Valley Prainare Board. Mr F. E. Hughes, chairman of the Drainage Board, stated that the board operated over 300 miles of drainage. The work of clearing the Waitoa river was estimated to ros» £10.600 of which the board was finding £2900. There was still a great deaUof work to be done on the upper reaches and the board asked for a £3 to £1 subsidy for work to the Piako River, with a further subsidy for three years. The Minister replied that consideration would be given to the representations and a report obtained. Piako County Matters Mr W. C. Kennedy, chairman of the County Conned, n-ked that the Government aerepf £:»no in full settlement of the proposed Mancawhara Bridge, that a £3 for £! subsidy b#» given for metalline Kinc's Road, that a £1 for £t subsidy be granted for side roads: that Thompson s Track be opened rfffht through for stock traffic and for the K.-witahi Railway Road In reply the Minister referred to the back roads, stating that the fiveyear plan would ever; h 3 .-v rni>ntrv settler access to towns.
