RACING AT ELLERSLIE

TAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB I FIELDS FOR TO-MORROW TWELVE IN CUP CONTEST THE PROSPECTS REVIEWED (By •'Martian.") Fine Helds are carded for the opening day to-morrow of the Takapuna Jockey Club's summer meeting at Ellersiie and indications are for a highly successful gathering. As in past years Waikato stables are freely represented in the general entry and as a number are in forward racing shape they should collect their share of stake money. Win and place betting will be in operation. Following are the flelds with a review of the prospects:— 12.0

The field is rather disappointing and with Sandrift, Bryce Street and Innes Lad to represent Te Rapa stables this trio should collect an appreciable

portion of the total disbursements. Englishman has been working well at Ellersiie and is a proved jumper with the credentials to command a following, but Sandrift and Bryce Street good jumpers, will fully extend him Both have been working and school ing well of late and they may dominate the betting. Adsum and In Command, who is reported to be showing promise in his work, should hold the balance safe in a race in which preference may be shown for— BRYCE STREET SANDRIFT ENGLISHMAN 12.42 TRIAL HANDICAP

The luck of the running may have a bearing on the result. Royal Vaals

showed promising form at the previous Takapuna meeting, finishing behind Miss Te Koura and Rronzette over the distance after being prominent throughout. Pasture is a speedy type, who has been working well, while just below her arc likely sorts in Quili', Lapidarian, Poker Dice and Inquisitor. Pamela will be improved with racing at Thames as also will Winderess, who was close up behind the place getters on the latter day. lie may do better here. Of the remainder the besl would appear to be Thurlap, Trevace and Jolie Dance. The best supported may be— QUILP HUYAL YAALS WIN DURESS 1.27

Aero King’s second to The Crooner at the Auckland Summer meeting was indicative of better things and he is sure to go well in the class. Fleetwind should be held safe by >tfiss Te Koura, whose recent efforts have been marked by consistency. She should be one of the hardest to dispose of. Bronzette has been shaping like an early improver on the tracks, while Glen Abb should be benefited by racing at the Thames. It was at this meeting that High Delight came into prominence, winning attractively in novice company the Crst day. It was al-

together a promising performance and one on which he will\improve. Max-! own should account for the other two, I but the prime fancies may be— HIGH DELIGHT MISS TE KOURA BRONZETTE i 2.17 * TAKAPUNA CUP

f .The material is there for a fine con- i test and the top-weights, Jonathan and Royal Appeuuant, will need only to reproduce their best to keep the others | well up to it throughout. In his last! appearance Jonathan filled the role of I runner-up to Courtcraft in the Clif-! ford Plate, while Royal Appellant’s second to Round Up in the Grand-I stand Handicap was lull of merit. ■ Knight of Australia has been working consistently well of late and Dark! Shadow looks in good nick to give of his best. Gay Rose and King Reyj have good holiday form to commend them and Grateful’s running at Thames suggests the Takanini representative will give another solid account of himself. Inver is a strong possibility, while of the others to make most appeal is Day Wind. Star Artist is in good heart, but she maybe troubled by the distance. The public may prefer Hie credentials of KING REY •KNIGHT OF AUSTRALIA GAY ROSE 3.2

Cape Horn is a* speedy colt, a win-J ner at bis last two starts. He should; again go well. Caloric lias been showing attractive form on the track and will be well served on the score of horsemanship. Sir Robin is a likely improver and Bronzora, Silver Quex, First Gold Money, Pocket Venus and First Flutter are not with-! out prospects, but form points to main! support be. ng extended— CALORIE HOT BOX Silt ROBIN 3.52 ! WYNYARD PLATE, Or £300: three-year-olds, 8.0; Tour- | year-olds, 8.5; with a penalty of Tib lor l winner.' of Hat races of the collective ! value or more Hi,in £2s<> to tile winner «t time or starting-. Maiden three-ycar-ulds allowed TIP; four-year-olds and upwards allowed lulb; 7 furs.

Anion should go well in the class, while Surella and Torch are capable of improvement on recent essays. Poker Face ran creditably at SI rat ford, while Miss Mes lor and Glen Abb are not without prospects. Du Maurier has been shaping well at headquarters and

lie promises to strip in good heart.: Ycsterda v lie shaped well over five furlongs." Flashing Spear finished on in fine style o\er six furlongs at ] Mm Taranaki meeting during the holi;da vs and on that showing he must possess a good chance. Muskon showed fair form during the New Year, while Frisklands latest efforts have 1 been distinctly encouraging. Ivy 1 Willonyx, Romani and Royal Vaals are ! a likely trio, while Play On, also, will L be assured of a measure of support. The public may sum up for — DU MAURIER ANION FLASHING SPEAR

| There is some fine sprint talent en- | gaged and Stretto's fine record over the holidays will claim her an op- . timistie following. She lias been i | working well of late and it will not be » on the score of condition if she fails, i Rereatu will need to improve and • better prospects may be Triune and > Tray Bit. The latter annexed sprint honours on the concluding day of the Auckland Summer meeting and he is r still in a handy position in the weights. 3 : Trilliarch lias been shaping well in 3: his trials and Tosh, a winner at " Thames, is handily weighted for the 3 1 part. He finished on well on Mon--1 j day. Palustre is in form and SuleiJ j man will need only to reproduce his • j best to provide strong opposition. 1 Rollicker, who looks well, and Bache--3 lor King, should also make their pre--5 sence felt in a race in which strong ' ’ support may be forthcoming for—- -! STRETTO PALUSTRE ROLLICKER

Melvanui -won the Hack Cup at j Thames and his latest form suggests an excellent chance for the Paeroa j representative. Ringshot is a capable sort when right, while Prince Rangi 1 may be seen to better advantage on i this occasion than was the case at , Thames. Privy Seal was a trifie un- ‘ lucky at Ellersiie on New Year’s Day and will have an opportunity here to make amends. Malagigi has been shaping well in his track trials and should account for more than beat him. Poker Face and Captain Bruce are the pick of the others in a race in which liie lists may be headed by— MELVANUI MALAGIGI PRIVY SEAL TARANAKI JOCKEY CLUB FEBRUARY MEETINtt fields for first da. \By Tt;#*fcrapn.
