SLOW MARKET
VALUES FOR RAMS SHEEP FAIR AT CLAUDELANDS Competition lacked enthusiasm at the seventh annual Southdown ram fair at Claudelands yesterday when some 700 stud and Hock Southdown rams, ewes and lambs were on offer in the selling pavilion. The sale was conducted by Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Company, in conjunction with Messrs G. W. Vercoe and Company, with Messrs C. E. Robertson and G. W. Vercoe in the rostrum. The market orened quietly and the tone was subdued throughout the sale, although the tops of the offering were ready of sale at satisfactory values. Flock rams were traded from 3i to B£gns, but the inquiry for the special stud entries was disappointing and sales in this section were restricted. The imported stud ram, Sandringham 11, of 1935, bred on His Majestythe King's estate at Sandringham, and offered on account of Mr G. Salway, of Whatawhata, aroused little interest, but was eventually sold to Mr P. McNaughton, of Morrinsville, for 30gns. A G-tooth stud ham, offered on account of Mr B. Symes, of Otorolianga, was knocked down to Mr T. M. Henderson, of Horsham Downs, at 20 gns. Well-bred ewes from Mr Salway did not bring tlie bidding beyond 4gns when they were withdrawn from sale. Sale Details Top price for llock rams, Bsgns, was paid for rams offered on account of Mr A. 1.. Wheeler, of Leedstown, Marlon, whose high quality sheep came forward in excellent order. Mr Wheeler’s line sold from Gi to BAgns, and the first lot of 12 sold averaged just on Bgns. A good inquiry was shown for a line of 27 one-shear rams from Mr H. Rhodes, of Paterangi, and all were sold at prices ranging from 4£ to 7jgns. Mr S. A. Rhodes, of Paterangi, sold 29 one-shear rams 3 A to 7gns. Mr S. A. Rhodes 1 if,th from 3J to 7,|ns.
