SHEEP IMPROVE

KEEN BEEF SALE VALUES AT FRANKTON FAT PIGS UNCHANGED A more buoyant market was experienced at the weekly stock sale at Frankton yesterday when both mutton and beef were brisker of sale and in many cases made better money for vendors. With Christmas less than a. fortnight away, butchers showed more activity. Some ohoice cattle were Included ln a lighter entry of steers and these were in sharp request at prices that were sometimes Just a shade better than last week. The top price of £l4 Is was 3s lower than last week, but last week there were few cattle sold above £l3. Best sorts yesterday usually made from £l2 10s to £l3 14s, with good medium sorts changing hands from £ll 10s £l2 ss. Prime fat cows and heifers also met a brisker trade and occasionally values moved in vendors’ favour. All classes were auctioned readily and sales were effected more freely than last week. Late quotations were repeated for calves, while there was little change for boner oattle. Sheep and Pigs Slightly fewer sheep were forward and quality was well up to standard. Values for all classes of wethers showed a slight improvement, the advance ranging from 6d to Is per head. Best wethers were traded from 27s 6d to 295, and fat sorts from 25s 6d to 275. G. Reeves, of Walmal, a buyer paid £l4 Is, while for others from the same vendor prices from 211 5s to £l3 Is 4d were paid, the 14 bullocks of the line averaging £l2 14s. Handy-weight sorts from Mr E. H. Wayne were in keen request from £ll to £l2 12s 6d. In the cow beef section, Mr E. W. R. Leslie, of Putaruru, sold good sorts from £8 10s to £lO 10s, a line from Messrs. Ngatuku, Ltd., making to £9 12s Gd. Cows and heifers from Mr R. G. Griffon, of Tauwhare, were auctioned from £7 to £9 10s and those from Mr T. M. Ilall from £8 11s to £9 ss. Top price for wethers, 295, was paid for sheep from Mr J. G. Reeves, of Waimai, who sold others from 26s 9d to 27s 6'd. Wethers from Mr J. B. Jackson, of Raglan, made 28s, while 6d below this figure was paid for a line from Mr E. J. Owen, of Pirongia.

Loan and Mercantile Agency The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report on the sale as follows: — A full yarding of fat cattle met with a brisk demand, with values showing a very marked improvement. Prime fat bullocks ex Mr David Johnstone, Whatawhata, realised from £l2 15s to £l4 ss: lighter sorts from the same vendor £ll 10s to £l2. A pen of prime Shorthorn cows on account of Mr T. M. Hall ranged in value up to £9 12s 6d. Mr William Leask of Eureka obtained £7 15s for fat Red Poll cows. Vealers were yarded in greater numbers than last week, prices -showing very little alteration from last week’s rates.
