FIRMER SALE

MARKET AT FRANKTON IMPROVEMENT FOR OX BRIGHTER SALE OF EWES Slightly Improved values for ox beef and a readier trade for fat ewes were features of the weekly stock sale at Frankton yesterday, when the short entry of beef was not without its Influence on the market. Little change In values was apparent In the fat pig section, which was well supplied. The entry of bullooks was the smallest seen at the yards for some months with the consequence that buyers were not in a position to show the same discrimination as has been possible at most recent sales. The market opened briskly with the first two pens selling at prices ranging from £l3 5s to £l7, the latter price being the best for three weeks. Top price last week was £ls ss. Good medium-weight steers were forward in only limited numbers and ranged in price from £l3 17s 6d to £l6 ss. The price per 100 lb. for best ox ranged in price from 34s to 40s, although slightly above the latter figure was realised in some cases. Cows and heifers were also forward in smaller numbers with only a small supply of ohoice beef. A few pens of extra ohoice oows and heifers were traded from £9 to £lO 6s with good fat pens making from £7 to £8 10s. Competition was again keen for boners while a good entry of .calves was in brisk request at late rates.

Sheep and Pigs A healthier tone marked the fat sheep market and although values for wethers showed no change, buyers showed more readiness to trade. Values were Just a shade firmer for ewes and many lines advanced by approximately 6d to is per head, best shorn sorts making from 20s to 2is 6d, against 20s 6d to 22s the previous week. Slightly better money was also realised for hoggets, good woolly sorts making from 27s to 325, against 26s to 28s with shorn lines realising from 23s 6d to 25s 6d. More lambs were traded and In some cases prioes showed, an Improvement, the top price being 32s 6d against 28s 6d. Baconers were slightly cheaper, with prices ranging from 60s to 82s per head, but porkers were generally firm from 37s to 58s. A better inquiry was shown for all classes of stores, large stores being traded from 36s to 42s per head, and weaners from 17s 6d to 225.
