ANNUAL RACE MEETING

WAIKATO HUNT CLUB l SHOWERY WEATHER CONDITIONS DIVERSITY OF FRO'CKING | Brilliantly hot sunshine and ! showers alternately during the day made the frocking of feminine follow- , ers at the annual race meeting of the Waikato Hunt Club held at the Cambridge course yesterday, a study in contrasts. There was a very large attendance, and the green of the course with trees and mountains as a background, presented a brilliant and attractive scene in the sunshine. A diversity of fashions was evident in the frocking, from light summer ensembles and spring suits and frocks, to the more sombre winter garb. The übiquitous navy and flecked tweed suits were by far the most widely worn, with brown and bottle green also firm favourites. Particularly in vogue were the crownless or banded hats popular at present, and tails and sWathes were seen on most hats. Later in the afternoon raincoats and umbrellas appeared as if by magic, and wearers of lighter ensembles hurried for cover. Grey tailored suits with blue and navy accessories were much in evidence, and saunter and swagger coats were also widely worn. Hals-were largely small, of the toque and turban variety, with a good sprinkling of bonnet and sailor types. Tweed i and felt slouch hats were also very popular. 'Spots and florals are fast i coming into their own again with the I warmer weather, navy as a background being prime favourite, j Gay raincapes and umbrellas in i stripes and plaids presented splashes of colour against the green, the old type raincoat being in the minority for wet weather fashions.
