STRUCK A BICYCLE.

GIBBORNE MASSEUR FINED. INTOXICATED IN A CAR. (By Telegraph.—press Association.) AUCKLAND, Friday. A fine of £ls and cancellation of his motor license for 12 months was imposed in the Police Court this morning on William Thomas Wain (40), masseur, of Gisborne, for being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor-car on the Remuera Road yesterday afternoon. The police said the car struck the rear wheel of a bicycle in Newmarket and the car stopped almost at the moment of impact. It was seen that Wain was unsteady on his feet. Three-quarters of an hour later a doctor certified that lie was under the influence of liquor although not drunk. , and it was unsafe for him to be in charge of a car. Counsel said Wain had a consider- | able practice in Gisborne. He asked that if it were found necessary to ! deal with the license the period of cancellation should he brief. IN “ BORROWED ” CAR. Following a bump into a stationary car with a friend's car he borrowed, Samuel Beattie, a waterside worker, was fined £6 and costs for being intoxicated in charge of a car and was to-day disqualified from obtaining a drivei’s license for 12 months, iin a charge of driving without a license he was convicted and discharged. The story told was that he got the key to get some things out of the car and while doing so thought he would dri* e to his wife’s sister’s place to get .her to intercede with his own wife, uho had had words with him over his drinking. On the way the car broke down and a mechanic fixed it for him but would take no payment, so they had Iwo drinks. He and his wife’s father had had several drinks earlier in the day.
