RESTORATION OF WAGE CUTB. INCREASED FARES AND RATES. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. LONDON, August 12. The pay of rail way men in Britain is to be advanced to the 1931 level by the restoration of the balance of the cut made during the financial crisis. The restoration will cost the companies £2,500,000 a year. This will be passed on to the public in the form of increased fares and goods rates. OVER 600,000 MEN BENEFIT. MORE PAY AND LEAVE. TO COST £2,900,000 YEARLY. (Official Wireless.) (Received Aug. 13, 1 p.m.) RUGBY, Aug. 12. About ’500,000 of Britain’s most responsible work people received good news when the decision of the Railway Staff National Tribunal was made public. The main effect is to restore the remainder of the 1931 wage cuts and make other concessions, costing altogether £2,900,000 yearly. Minor concessions include the restoration of standard rates for overtime, the granting of leave equivalent to Bank holidays, a minimum of £2 weekly as a base rate, and special extra pay for lower-paid workers. Actually the number of men affected is 574,000, 410,000 directly and 164,000 Indirectly. Railway stocks this morning appreciated in the market.
