SEVERE STORMS
THE WORST IN MEMORY. DAMAGE DONE BY LIGHTNING. EXTRAORDINARY HAVOC CAUSED. (Omclal Wireless.) (Received July 16, 3 p.m.) RUGBY, July 15. Violent thunderstorms have occurred in England. Weymouth had a cloud burst, which flooded many shops and houses. Dorcester, Dartmouth and Bristol had similar experiences. At the Leicester County cricket ground a torrent of water carried away chairs and forms through the bursting of a stormwater sewer. In London lightning struck some 'houses. The storms are the worst within living memory. Lightning caused extraordinary havoo ■during a thunderstorm. At least 20 houses and many chimney stacks were blasted. There were numerous fires In London and elsewhere. Aeroplanes Crash. A Royal Air Force Bomber was forced down during a thunderstorm at Melton I obray, and the pilot and observer were Injured. A second bomber crashed in flames in Somerset, and the two passengers and pilot had miraculous escapes. Weymouth experienced the worst floods for 40 years. Children were taken from schools in boats in the low-lying districts. Bristol was flooded to a depth of six feet.
