LOCAL OBSERVATIONS. The following local observations on the weather are supplied by Miss Budd, of Messrs Balfour, Irvine and Webster, Limited, Hamilton: Barometer. (By Govt. Meteorologist). The special forecast by the Government Meteorologist covering the WalkutoThr.mes Valley Is ns follows: Forecast: Moderate to strong, but decreasing southerly winds. Weather line'. Temperatures cold, with some sharp frosts. Seas moderate General Inference: A depression which was moving in a south-easterly direction yesterday, but was at a considerable distance from the East Coast of the North Island was centred north of Chatham Island this morning, and had deepened considerably. At the same time pressure' has risen considerably in western portions of the Dominion owing to the advance of an anti-cyclone from the Tasman Sea. Barometers are falling over southeastern Australia, and the weather should rapidly improve.
