BRILLIANT FUNCTION.

HAMILTON COMBINED BANKS. SUCCESSFUL ANNUAL BALL. Deft fingers -had effected a wonderful transformation In the Regent Ballroom last evening on the occasion of j the annual ball of the staffs of the : Hamilton Combined Banks when there i was a very large number present. A j predecessor to many most success- j ful balls, last evening's function was j an unqualified success and greatly appreciated by the many present. A central bell-shaped canopy of cunningly twisted streamers in rose pink was finished with a huge cluster I of gaily-shaded balloons in the centre of the ballroom, and lower canopies of spring green streamers provided a delightful colour contrast. Huge clusters of gay balloons finished each of the pillars about the ballroom and were placed on either side of the stage, one hanging in the centre of the stage above the handsome black and gold Combined Banks’ monogram , which occupied pride of place. A curtain effect of pink and green streamers was arranged about the trellis work on either side of the dais. On

the supper balcony rose pink streamers were artistically arranged overhead and the lovely bowls or golden mimosa and brill ant Iceland poppies had bronchi spring to llie table arrangements. which were finished with 'old candles in bronze candlesticks. The lights, which had been masked with gaily-patterned Japanese lanterns looked most attractive and cast a pleasant suffused glow over the ballroom. Excellent music. which added ereatly to the gaiety of the evening was played by Trevor Eady's Showboat Orchestra, from Auckland, and novelty dances of several kinds and the distribution of novelties lent a carnival air to the function. The -splendid success of the ball was due very largely to the excellent organisation and arrangements of the members of the committee to whom a warm tribute is due. The hostesses present were:— Mrs H. J. Baker, wearing handpainted gold flowered French georgette with a rust velvet coat. Mrs D. Robertson, black lace and crepe cloque, and black silk velvet coatee.
