ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL

GAMES FOR TO-MORROW. ANSELL CUP COMPETITION. ROVERS PLAY WANDERERS. Following the completion of the South Auckland Football Association’s senior competition last Saturday, a subsidiary competition for the Ansell Cup will be played, commencing tomorrow. Each team will play four games and the decision of the new competition will rest on the aggregate •points gained. In order to conduct the Ansell Cup matches on these lines the association has had a special dispensation from th-e donors of the cup, and retains the right to revert to the challenge system next year. To- morrow’s games will be between Claudelands Rovers and Hamilton Wanderers, at Seddon Park; and Glen Massey and Huntly at Glen Massey. In view of the Wanderers’ success in the Howden Shield, they are favoured against Rovers, but as the latter have shown vast improvement in their last two games they may gain Wanderers’ measure. Huntly is a more experienced side than Glen Massey, and on this count they should win the second game. However, Glen Massey are a young and enthusiastic team who are bound to make a good showing. The junior match between Wanderers and Glen Massey to have been played at Glen Massey has been postponed. Following are the fixtures: Senior (Ansell Gup)—Rovers v. Wanderers, Seddon Park. No. 1, 3 p.m. (Mr E. R. Marsh) ; Glen Massey v. Huntly-Starr, at Glen Massey. Junior—-Rovers A v. Rovers B. Seddon Park, No. 1, 1.30 p.m. Mr A. Rogerson) ; City v. In a Soccer match last evening played under floodlights England beat Queensland by two goals to one. Without Pickering, who is injured, the Englishmen were not cohesive and seemingly not keen. Brazandt’s Sixth Win. Brazandt has won 50 per cent more races than any two-year-old in Sydney this season, and by winning the Winter Nursery at Randwick recently he brought his tally to six. Yet in tills event, despite his great record, he was a long chance early, as backers would not believe that he could run seven furlongs. A brilliant youngster, he had been inclined to stop in his six-furlong races, and perhaps if the going had been firm the distance would have troubled him. As the horses were on the way to the post a solid commission was launched for Brazandt. I-n sodden going the brilliant horse has all the advantage. He escaped the flying mud, and his speed had the others scrambling all the way. He took half a furlong to hit the front, then he streaked right away, and at the half-mile was six lengths clear. He eventually won nicely. For an original outlay of 225gns he has now won £855 in stakes.
