OBITUARY.

MRS. G. W. CARTER. (Special to Times). CAMBRIDGE. Thursday. The death occurred at her residence, Victoria Street, Cambridge, yesterday of Mrs. Nellie Carter, wife* of Mr. George W. Carter, aged 37 years. She was a prominent Methodist * and during the 19 years she had been in Cambridge she took an active part in the affairs of St. Paul’s Church. The late Mrs. Carter was born at Auckland, being a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. E. Fitness. At an early age she moved with the family toy Opunake. Mania and then Eltham. where she was infant mistress at the public school. Mr. and Mrs. Carter were married at Eltham. both then being teachers. | They later resided at Christchurch, Taemero Nprth Auckland' and To Harato (Hawke’s Bay . and came to Cambridge in 1918, when Mr. Carter commenced business as a build ng con-tra.-lor. Mrs. Carter had not been in good health for the past six years but she continued bpr active interest in church affairs. She was a stalwart worker in the Methodist ladies* gu Id and a member and former president of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. Mrs. Carter Is survived by her husband and four sons Messrs. Nelld (Auckland), Harold (Timaru). Alan and Athol Carter (Cambridge) and four daughters Misses En d. Florence (Thames). Marjorie and Merle Carter There are four brothers. Brigadier Fitness, of the Salvation Army Home at Putaruru. Mr. Tlieo. Fitness (NgahlnapourJ). Ralph Fitness (Putaruru), Frank Fitness (Pntamahoe) and four s’sters. Mesdamos S. MR. F. J. WALLACE. (Special to Times.) TE AWAMUTU, Thursday. Korakonui district lost one of its most esteemed settlers yesterday, by the death of Mr. Francis James Wallace. Deceased, who was born at Kalkoura, Marlborough. 62 years ago, came with his wife and family of three daughters to this district about i s years ago, and after some time it llairini Mr. Wallace acquired a property at Korakonui. and proceeded lo bring il to a liiglily-produetive stale. He retired lo T.- Awamutu about two years ago. Though never actively connected willi any local or public bodies, he took his part willingly in any community effort, and won the esteem of all with whom he was associated. yesterday of Mr J. C. Leitch, assistant general manager of the Victorian branch of the Vacuum Oil Company Proprietary, Limited. Mr Leitch was born on l lie West Coast, where lie spent his early life, later attending Nelson College. Alter some experience in mining. Mr Leitch joined the staff of the Vacuum Oil Company as a lubrication engineer, serving in Wellington and Canterbury. In 1929 lie \sus transferred to Victoria.
