The Soviet fliers reported that they vere over San Francisco about 8.30 ».m., New Zealand time, when their tireless message broke off in the diddle of a sentence. The fact that there was no word br the next three hours induced the loviet Consul to send up a plane to •arch around Oakland. A later message states that the loviet fliers landed 90 miles east of toa Angeles.

The Soviet fliers landed in a cow pasture at San Jaclntocal with a leakng petrol line exhausting their fuel. They fought against fogs all the way [o California, and landed at 2 a.m. Thursday (New Zealand). They flevy approximately 6625 miles in jwo days fourteen hours six minutes. The fliers were not aware that there pvas a large army airport only 20 miles Trom where they landed. Army ’planes immediately flew to the pasture, stationed a guard over the ’plane, and brought the fliers to the army Held.
