PERCENTAGE INCREASE OF RATES.

ADDITIONAL ESTIMATED EXPENDITURE £4912.

PERMANENT WORKS PROGRAMME DETAILED

To cover an increased estimated expenditure of £4912, owing to the rising costs with the 40-hour week, Increased wages, Increased Hospital Board and Fire Board levies and the like, the rates for the Hamilton Borough were increased proportionately at the meeting of the Council last evening when the estimates were finalised. The Increased rates are estimated to return £4362, and a table of the exact increases in all areas was given by the Mayor, Mr J. R. Fow, In moving the recommendations. The electricity charges were reduced by 10 per cent for prompt payment, while the refuse charges were Increased by Is. The rates this year are to be struck on 75 per centum of the values appearing in the Valuation Roll as at March 31 last, except where otherwise provided by sub-section 3 of section 5 of the Valuation of Land Amendment Act, 1933, and the meeting to strike the rates will be held at 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11, and the rates will bo payable on Wednesday, August 25, 1937, Last Year’s Rates.
