UNITY NEEDED.

POULTRY PRODUCERS. SUPPORT FOR FEDERATION. DOMINION SECRETARY'S ADDRESS. The vital need of a greater degree of unity among the poultry producers of the Dominion was stressed by Mr A. J. Severn, secretary of the New Zealand Poultry Producers’ Federation and a member of the New Zealand Poultry Board, in a brief address to Waikato poultry producers last evening. No great progress would be made by the Industry, said Mr Severn, until producers more fully realised the importance of organisation. There were 150.000 poultry producers in the Dominion, 20,000 of whom kept over 25 birds each. A total of 15,000 registered last season, but of this number only 1500 belonged to the. federation. However, the membership was steadily growing and this year membership fees had been collected from 1800 producers. The larger the membership of the federation, the better it would be fpr the Industry as the Government would then be forced to give greater attention to Its demands. If producers could show the Government that they were organising, then a greater measure of progress would be assured. At the present time, however, it seemed that the Government was ignoring poultry producers. There were at present, two bodies representing producers, the New Zealand Poultry Board and the Poultry Federation, but actually there was need for only one body and the federation was working toward this end Although the Poultry Board had done good work In the past, there had not been sufficient publicity given to its work and producers had been kept, in the dark as to what was being done.
