AMALGAMATION SCHEME.

UNEMPLOYED WORKERS. CARRYING DIFFICULTIES. RAGLAN COUNTY COUNCIL MEETS. (Times Representative). NGARUAWAHIA, Wednesday. A letter was received at the monthly meeting of the Raglan County Council held at Ngaruawahia yesterday, from the Hon. W .E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs, expressing his wish to meet members of the Raglan, Waikato and Waipa County Councils in order to discuss matters relating to his scheme embodied in the Local Government (Amalgamation Sohemes) Bill. He hoped to place his proposals before the councils at Hamilton on July 21. The chairman, Mr H. W. Wilson, ■suggested that as many oounoillors as was possible attend the meeting in order to obtain first-hand knowledge of the scheme. 'His motion to that affect was carried. Those present at the meeting were. Messrs H. W. Wilson (chairman). F. Johnstone, W. R. Moore, R. C. Tapp, W. A. A. Murray, A. Cobourne, R. Johnstone, S. H. 'Crawford, L. C. Logan, M. J. Corcoran, J. E. Richardson.. The county clerk, Mr G. H. Smith, and tlie county engineer, Mr K. M. Wright, were also in attendance. An apology for absence was received from Mr W. Thomson. Unemployed Labour. In connection with tlie employment of sustenance labour by local bodies, the county clerk, Mr Smith, stated that there was nothing in the council's estimates lo cover any scheme the Minister of Labour- might put forward. The position appear cu to be that the Government would subsidise up to £4 per week a man. In that case it might be as well to transfer £IOOO from the noxious weed expendi- | ture account to tire loan account. The engineer. Mr K. M. Wright, said that work for unemployed men could he found in the vicinity of the county quarries, where ragwort had obtained a hold, but accommodation costing about £ls*a man would have to be provided. Motions that the council was willing to provide work for the men and that the transfer be authorised were carried. Transport Charges.
