AOTIVE YEAR'S WORK. TWENTIETH ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Hamilton j branch of the Plunket Society was j held at the Society's Rooms yesterday | afternoon before a large attendance, \ the president, Mrs N. E. BlomCeld, presiding. In opening the meeting the president extended a warm welcome to the Mayor, Mr J. R. Fow, and Mrs Fow, and" Mr C. A. Barrell, M.P., and Mrs Barrell, who were present, members and friends, and members of the grankton sub-branch. Apologies were then received. Society’s Wonderful Work. In proposing the confirmation of the minutes Mr Barrell said he found it difficult to describe adequately the wonderful work of the Plunket Society In New Zealand and Indeed In the world. It had a tremendously wide •cope and he had been most Interested recently in statements he had received from overseas concerning work in other countries at the present time, on the lines of the Plunket Society in New Zealand. Interest in motherhood and child welfare was high, and he hoped all possible would be done in the future to assist wherever possible, this work, and the work of the society. In his opinion a scheme of Motherhood Endowment would soon be necessary and if It could be brought to fruition should be of inestimable benefit. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet Mi* Fow congratulated the society on its splendid year’s work, and spoke of the success that attended the work among the mothers, and Its far-reaching effects for the good of women and children in the oountry. Mrs Blomfleld spoke briefly of the work that the society did In the three sections, pre-natal, post-natal and preschool age. She said that the nurses were in great need of extra help and urged the Incoming committee to give serious consideration to the matter of engaging another nurse, even if only part time. She extended thanks to the retiring committee for its loyal support and co-operation at all times, and to the retiring secretary, Mrs E. C. Sare, and the retiring treasurer, Mrs G. Hovey. Mrs Hovey’s services extended over a period of years and the meeting accorded her a warm vote of thanks. Votes of thanks were also extended by the rtfeellng to Mrs Blomfleld and "Mrs Pare. It was approved by the meeting that the position of secretary and. treasurer he Incorporated and made a salaried one, as the work had become too large for an honorary position. It was also approved that the matter of finding a secretary-treasurer be left in the hands of the executive of the society. The president presented the secretary and treasurer with small posies of daphne. The meeting concluded with a welcome to new members and thanks to Mr Fow and Mr Barrell for their attendance.
