RUGBY CONTROL.

TRANBPORT OF PLAYERB. SPRINGBOKS IN HAMILTON. WAIKATO UNION AFFAIRS. At a meeting of the management oommittee of the Waikato Rugby Union last evening, those present were Mr W. Fraser (chairman), Mr T. W. Thomp-son (secretary) and Messrs C. Speight (treasurer), B. Brewer (Cambridge), B. Chapman (Morrinsville), A. St. G. Belcher (Hamilton), A. E. Gibbons (Hamilton), J. B. Rolfe (Putaruru), C. Taylor (Taupirl) and A. G. Yardley (Matamata). Opportunity was taken by the ohairman to weloome Canon K. Karaka, o' Morrinsville, as the Maori representative on the union. The New Zealand Rugby Union wrote agreeing to temporary seating accommodation being provided for the Waikato v. Springbok match In Hamilton. The union was asked by the New Zealand Union to oonslder the speech of the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry on the occasion of his conference with sports bodies with a view to forming a Sports Counoil. Regarding the transport of football teams by road the New Zealand Rugby Union wrote, providing the remarks of the transport authority on the matter. The latter stated that it was considered that Bugby football teams did not come under the heading of special occasions In the meaning of the Licensing Act, therefore a license must be taken out and a certificate of fitness obtained for any service in which the lorry owner oharged for the carriage of a team. Although it was desirable from an administrative point of view that a certain amount of control be exercised it was not intended to interfere unduly with the affairs of the football authorities. Arrangements were being made to have the fee of ten shillings for a seasonal license reduced to five. Thus the operator would be able to run services and would free himself from restrictions relating to the Act. Mr Gibbons moved that application be made to the Hamilton Borough Council with a view to obtaining a half holiday in Hamilton on July 28 when Waikato played the Springboks. The shopkeepers might co-operate in obtaining the grant. STAG TROPHY GAMES. EFFECT ON OUTSIDE CLUBS. ALLEGED BREACH CAUSED. Maintaining that Ihey had no Idea of the existence of a central committee controlling the Slag Trophy Rugby football competitions in Hamilton, several members of the management committee or the Waikato Rugby Union last night complained that the central committee was causing a breach with the sub-unions. A rather heated discussion ensued. Mr W. Fraser presided over the. gathering. Mr A. E. Gibbons, stated that the Hamilton Unflm had decided not to move fhßt the Finlay Cup be changed to a one round competition. The union considered that it would not be fair to take tlie cup from Morrinsville by legislation when it could not be obtained by a challenge. It was considered by Mr A. G. Yardlev. the Matamata delegate, that the Stag competition was interfering with the Finlay Cup games. He maintained that the. central committee should endeavour to bring together again the unions which they had ignored in their Mr Gibbons in replying said that the committee would be pleased to admit any teams that cared to join. The Morrinsville delegate, Mr B. Chapman, asked if the Stag competitions were discussed by members of the Waikato Union. In reply Mr Fraser said that the matter had been dealt with some time ago. Ejery participating union appeared to be satisfied with the inter-union games. He stated that lie did not expect there would be any split in the union, at least he hoped not, as lie did not waut to see the present Dosition upset.
