GOLF NOTES.

HAMILTON LADIES’ CLUB. DOUGLAS CUP COMPETITION. (By “All Square.”) Owing to a number of players competing in the Rotorua tournament, the first round of the Douglas Cup competition was not completed till last Monday. The match between Mrs E. C. Brewis and Mrs Hallett finished all square and had to be played again, Mrs Brewis winning the second game. Mrs H. McDonald accounted for Mrs A. H. Berry in the first round. Mrs Primrose won from Mrs Arthur by default. Miss Bliss, after tieing witn Mrs Worley in the first round won from her by default in the second game.

The second round of the competition was played on Wednesday and keen interest was shown in the results. Perfect conditions prevailed and the play was of a high standard. Mrs J. D. Joy played exceptionally well to defeat Mrs W. J. King who is a consistent match player. Miss Coventry, who played so weR in the first round in accounting for Miss J. Masters, went down to Mrs C. W. Jewell in the second round. Mrs L. Day had a decided win against Mrs A. H. McKinnon, Miss M. Eyre took Mrs Luckie to the 18th green to beat her 2 up. Mrs D. E. Hart also won from Mrs G. Mills on the 18th. Mrs A. E. Sandford, always a worthy opponent, played good golf to beat Mrs W. Waring 4-3. The latter player was a bit off the line at times and Mrs Sandford’s straight shots won her the match. Mrs E. C. Brewis and Mrs G. Primrose had an in and out sort of game, Mrs Brewis finishing the last few holes in fine style, winning the match on the 16th green. Perhaps the surprise of the second round was the defeat of Mrs McDonald on the 18th green by Miss V. Bliss who was receiving 19 strokes. Miss Bliss was playing steadily to her handicap, and although Mrs McDonald was well on her game, 19 strokes were too many to combat. In the consolation match for the losers in the first round of the Douglas Cup competition, there was nothing sensational, not one match being taken farther than the 17th green for a decision. Mrs E. Firth. Miss J. Masters, Mrs H. Ambury, Mrs E. V. Daldy, Mrs A. E. McCracken, Mrs G. B. Dent, Mrs H. Hallett and Mrs Worley all had wins. Mrs McCracken was playing exceptionally well and did the home round in 38—her best effort. Bogey Scramble. Thirty-five players who were not in the match play competitions entered for a Bogey scramble on Wednesday. Mrs C. F. O’Connor’s 2 up was the best card in. She produced an 83 gross—two strokes below her handicap. Mrs A. W. Nisbet’s card of 1 down was also very good. Her round of 93 reduced her to a 21 handicap. Miss K. Wilson with six good “Ringers” on her card was 4 down for third place. Miss Betty Smith and Mrs F. Groom both brought in cards with a reduction of two strokes. Mrs W. Batt, after being decidedly off her game for a few weeks, played more to her old form on Wednesday with a gross 89. Thursday Players. The first player on a courtesy 36 handicap this season to reduce was Mrs S. A. Bennett, who came in this week with a gross 105 to give her a 33 handicap. Mrs Bennett was a beginner at the start of the season and shows promise of becoming a good golfer. Scratch Score. The scratch score of the course has again been altered and is now 72. This seems to meet with the approval of all the members and playing from the men’s tee at the 4th hole which is now a Bogey 5 gives the lqw handicap

players a chance to hit out with two full woods. Club Foursomes. So far thirty-four pairs have entered for this event which is always a popular one. On account of June 9 being a holiday the second round of the Pin-

fold Cup competition will be played on June 7 (Monday) and the nrst round of the Foursomes which wm to be played on June 7 will now be held on June 14. The third round of the Douglas Cup and Consolation matches must ba played before June 16.
