EFFECT OF SHORT TERM. “EXTRAORDINARY POSITION.” In view of the fact that pupils had been in residence only six weeks of the first school term which normally lasts 13 weeks, the question was raised at yesterday’s meeting of the Hamilton High School Board of Governors whether parents would be required to pay the normal rate of fees in respect to boarders at the girls’ hostel. The secretary, Mr R. English, stated that in some cases fees had been paid in advance, while in others where the amount was still owing parents felt 1 fiat the normal charge was not Justified. if reduced rates were allowed to these parents, those who had paid in advance would necessarily have to be compensated, lie further pointed out that there was no provision in the regulations for such a contingency. “It is certainly an extraordinary position.” commented Mr F. A. Snell, who agreed with the chairman that It was a burden on parents to have to pay for the full term when actually pupils had been at school during half the time only. On the motion of the chairman, it. was left to Die secretary to ascertain from Die Department of Education what steps were likely to be taken in the matter.
