Dr. van Zeeland will be supported by the Catholics. Liberals, Socialists and Communists. The last-mentioned regard him as‘ representing anti-Fascist opinion, while ‘ .\l. Leon Degrelle is regarded as a‘ follower of Herr Hitler and Signor Mussolini. Dr. \'an Zeeland‘s election is thought to be certain. but the fight will be very bitter. The figures will show whether the Rexists are making the progress they claim. “I am acting in the interests of the country." declared the Prime Minister of Belgium. Dr. van Zeelsnd. when he accepted a challenge from .\I. Leon Desrelle. leader or the Rex (Fascist) Party, to an electoral duel. Ml Degrelle had ordered the Rex Party's deputy for one of the Brussels constituencies to resign. simultaneously announcing that he would himself contest the byeleotion and challenging the Government to a trial or strength as between its policy and his.
