POSTAL FACILITIES.
CAMBRIDGE WINQ. NEW OFFICE OPENED. MANY IMPROVEMENTS. (Special to Times.) CAMBRIDGE, Monday. This morning- the new wing of the Cambridge Post Office was opened for business to the public. After many months or difficult work In the alterations and additions to the post office, which cost about £4550, the contractors. Messrs Speight, Pearce, Nlcoil and Davys, Ltd., have completed their task. The new wing, situated on the southern side, with a 3 4rt. counter, provides for the public a great improvement trr accommodation. The new building has been fitted in’ the modern style and the facilities for the public are in keeping with the rapid progress or business of late years. At the rear of the long counter, where there is ample accommodation, the money order office and office Tor general business is situated the ledger rooms. Leading off rrom the main entrance to the wing is conveniently situated the postmaster’s office. New Entrance. The old entrance to the post office has been closed and at the northern end Is a new and larger entrance to the private postal boxes. At present the workmen are engaged in dismantling the old counter and fittings and all this space will now be added to the maft room. The Postmaster having moved to a private residence, the whole of the top floor or the old building is being strengthened to take the machinery and fittings or the new telephone exchange, and It will be erected as soon as possible. Both the old and new buildings will be heated by an up-to-date central heating steam system. It is already in operation tn the new wing.
