40-HOUR WEEK.
ACTION BY DOCK HANDS. NO WORK ON SATURDAY. (Special to Times.) AUCKLAND, Saturday. About 100 civilians employed at*th Calliope Dock, including engineers, carpenters, shipwrights and painters, decided yesterday to press for a 40hour week and as a step to that end unanimously agreed not to report for work this morning, though they were informed toy the manager of the dockyard that if they failed to report 4)6 would have no option under tiie regulations hut to consider that they had ieil on their owu account.
