TOURIST NEEDS.
—————.————- ‘ JOURNALIST’S OPINION. JAPANESE SYSTEM PRAISED. . The opinion that Japan has the most onlcient travel service in the world is held by Mr .\lason Warner, tln American Journalist. who Visited Hamilton to-day. .\ir \Varner. who is 3 5119013] contributor to the Chicago Tribune, spends six months of the year travelling and during the remaining period delivers talks on his Journeys. He also submits articles to several well—known American publications as he moves tron] town to town. ‘ Questioned regarding his opinion 01‘ the tourist service in New Zenland, .\ir Warner. who is thoroughly ilppl‘er‘iih tive of the scenic attractions which the Dominion has to offer, remarked that, considering his stay has been rather short he did not feel competent to raise any criticism. However, although the trade commissioners in the United States of America were doing admirable work and the people in the States had a very real idea or the scenic attractions of New Zealand. they we're very much in the dark regarding transport arrangements. Tim. Motor Neglected. It appeared that there were a certain number 01' places to visit but there was no suggestion of the time the tour would occupy—there appeared to be no comprehensive system which embraced all the various resorts. A tourist drifted from one interesting place to another, and, not—withstanding the valuable work 01' such organisations as the Travel Club and the Tourist Department, the overseas visitor, landing in New Zeaihlnd, was at a great loss to know exuctiy how long a ccrtniu tour would occupy. “in Japan." continued .\ir Warner, “from the moment you step off the boat in the south. till the time you reach Kobe the whole. tour of two weeks is arranged in ewry detail. “it works more or less autoumticuiiy." Interest in New leaiand. Referring to the increasing interest bcln-g shown in New Zeaixunl. .\ir \Vurncr stated that many or the best known American papers were regularly featuring articles on New animui and Australia. and, although tourists were very keen to \isit these shores. the inadequate travel arrangements no doubt deterred minty from making the trip. llcrc .\ir Warner hastened to add that such lnmdcdum'y was not contlncd to New anlund. but could be found everywhere but Japan. Mr Warner suggested tlnit a we'll—mapped out two weeks' tour of the Dominion would encourage irin'rilcrs to sim over bctwcen bouts, instead 01‘ having; a hurried \‘istt to perhaps oniv hotoruu or \\':iitoino, ‘ Houpltailty Appreciated. :\5 his profession lil‘i‘t‘ssitats-s a shunt dull ul' I‘l‘N'dl‘t'll. .\lr “Eu-um- has had I-nusuii‘mirli' i-nniiu‘i \\llll “lucid“ in llll' public lll‘l'.|l‘ll'\‘i|l'l y’uiicl'ics null inns-'uzuS. and he could not spunk too high!) nl' tin- aviatiun-c “inch lllt'\ hind rcudrrcii him.
