'—v—~—.—-——-APPOINTMENT ANNOUNOED. ASSISTANT ENGINEER-IN-CHIEF. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) “'ELLINGTON. Friday. Mr A. J. Baker has been promoted assistant Engineer-in-Chief of the Public'Wox-ks Department in succes—sion to Mr J. Wood, who has been appointed Eng-ine‘er-in-Chiei. Mr Baker Joined the department as engineer cadet in 1901:. In 1911 he carried out the location of the east—ern e'nd of the Stratford-Main Trunk line and in 1914 he was placed in charge as resident engineer or the newly—ri'eated Taumarunui public works distriuti In i9i9 he was district engineer in Utago and in 1920 was in charge of the Auckland district. He was transferred in 1921‘ to hczld office as inspecting engineer, till this year. when he heramc‘ “Hug-assistant on— Rilicei'»in-(‘hiof. Ho is a i'ilL‘llibCi‘ of the Highways Board. _—
